Hospitalist

About The Position

Hospitalist Inpatient care fails when decisions wait. This role owns the hospital course from admission through a safe discharge: stabilize, decide, coordinate, and hand off without gaps. Impact shows up in shorter unnecessary stays, fewer avoidable returns, and families who understand the plan.

Requirements

  • MD or DO and completion of an accredited internal medicine or family medicine residency.
  • Board certification or active board eligibility in internal medicine or family medicine.
  • Unrestricted state medical license, or eligibility to obtain one before start, and DEA registration.
  • Current BLS and ACLS.
  • Recent inpatient management of common conditions, including sepsis, heart failure, COPD, and diabetes.
  • Proven same-day EHR documentation on a busy service.

Responsibilities

  • Admit and manage a defined daily census so most patients have a working diagnosis, treatment plan, and expected discharge date within 24 hours.
  • Complete admission and progress notes the same day so nursing, consultants, and case management can act without chasing documentation.
  • Lead multidisciplinary rounds that remove barriers to tests, consults, and placement before they add a day.
  • Close medication, follow-up, and education gaps at discharge to cut preventable readmissions.
  • Recognize deterioration early and escalate or transfer before crisis, including during cross-cover.
  • Resolve same-shift conflicts with specialists and nursing so the plan the team executes is the plan that was intended.
  • Explain diagnoses and next steps so patients and families can repeat them in their own words.

Benefits

  • Published census and backup coverage so surges are shared, not absorbed alone.
  • Quality time tied to length of stay, readmissions, and patient experience—not extra unpaid charting.
  • Nursing and case management treated as partners in the daily plan.
  • A clear path to lead if you improve the service, not only individual charts.
