About The Position

Rieles Group is seeking Hospitalists to provide services in support of Veterans, Active Military personnel, and their families at Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC) in San Antonio, TX. BAMC is the United States Army's premier medical institution, a 425-bed academic medical center, and the Department of Defense's largest facility and only Level 1 trauma center.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizen or GCH
  • Certification in BCLS, ACLS required
  • Must have and maintain a valid, unrestricted license to practice medicine from one of the 50 states, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, or US Virgin Islands
  • Must be able to obtain clinical privileges to practice medicine with the applicable MTF credentials committee.
  • Doctor of Medicine or a Doctor of Osteopathy who is board certified in Internal Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
  • Must have or obtain a current, valid Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration number

Responsibilities

  • Serves primarily as a Hospitalist for inpatient general medicine wards during day time hours.
  • Serves as attending physician on consultation service and provide care in internal medicine clinic as directed by the Chief, Department of Medicine.
  • Cares for inpatients with acute and/or chronic illnesses, provides consultation to and acts as an interface with other physicians throughout BAMC.
  • Manages inpatient Internal Medicine admissions serving as staff of record while assisting, teaching, supervising and evaluating house staff and medical students.
  • Manages complicated medical problems such as infection, hypertension, peptic ulcer disease, thyroid disorders, diabetes, arthritic conditions, etc.
  • Examines patients, takes histories, performs physical examinations, orders laboratory tests, makes definitive diagnoses and prescribes treatment.
  • Refers patients as appropriate to specialty/subspecialty care.
  • Manages the full spectrum of care for all patients.
  • Ensures return reply from consultant on patient referral consultations.
  • Admits patients to the hospital when appropriate.
  • Monitors and manages patient care through the system to ensure cost-effective care.
  • Notifies patients of abnormal reports.
  • Prepares and documents appropriate history, physical examinations, and preoperative diagnosis.
  • Maintains documentation of all treatment provided in accordance with hospital directives and prepares required records and reports.
  • Uses inpatient and outpatient electronic health records systems to document patient treatment and submit orders.
  • Attends Department staff meetings, resident teaching conferences, and Quality Improvement Committee meetings as required.
  • Supports working and teaching rounds, prepares teaching materials including curriculum development, evaluates resident assignments, and presents formal and informal lectures.
  • Provides orientation, feedback, educational counseling, and proper documentation as required by the training program.
