About The Position

This is an ongoing coverage need for a Hospitalist NP/PA at a small community hospital. The role involves inpatient coverage, providing care at the observation/inpatient floor and intermediate levels. The average census is 8-10 patients. Responsibilities include responding to codes and rapid responses, ventilator management, managing step-down patients, and stabilizing critically ill patients for transport to a tertiary care facility. The patient population is adult.

Requirements

  • Willing to await licensure
  • Board certification
  • NPs must have Acute Care certification
  • AHA BLS and ACLS certifications
  • Vermont DEA certification
  • Minimum 2-3 years Hospitalist experience or equivalent
  • Clean malpractice and background
  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree focused on an NP specialty (e.g., family practice, adult-gerontology, pediatrics) or Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS) degree from an accredited program
  • National certification as an NP in a relevant specialty area by a recognized certifying body (e.g., American Academy of Nurse Practitioners [AANP]) or National certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
  • While specific requirements may vary, most locum APP positions prefer candidates with at least one year of experience in a clinical setting relevant to their specialty

Responsibilities

  • Respond to codes and rapid responses

  • Ability to manage stabilization of critically ill patient and arrange for transport to tertiary care level
  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments to diagnose and treat a variety of medical conditions
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests
  • Prescribe medications and manage chronic conditions
  • Provide patient education and counseling on healthy lifestyle choices
  • Perform procedures as permitted by state regulations and APP specialty
  • Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare providers to ensure coordinated care
  • Document patient care accurately and thoroughly
