About The Position

The Hospitalist of Inpatient Services will under indirect supervision, provide and manage continuous, intensive direct medical diagnosis and health care services to emergency, units, and short-stay hospital inpatients on a 24 hour, 7-day-per-week basis. The incumbent maintains effective lines of communication with the medical staff, nursing, social work and management, and coordinates development, implementation and evaluation of standards of patient care.

Requirements

  • Generally requires 3 to 5 years of related experience.
  • Doctorate degree in Medicine is required.
  • General Competencies: Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work accurately while meeting multiple deadlines. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form. Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with critical thinking and professional composure. Ability to understand and follow instructions. Ability to exercise sound and independent judgment. Knowledge and skill in use of job appropriate technology and software applications.
  • Management Competencies: Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources. Skill in monitoring/assessing the performance to make improvements or take corrective action. Skill in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems. Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate programs. Ability to establish goals and objectives. Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems.
  • Valid Florida Medical License
  • DEA board certification and board certification based on specialty are required.
  • American Heart Association and any additional applicable life support certification for Healthcare Providers may be required at the unit level upon hire with at least 6 months validity and maintenance at JHS for the duration of employment.

  • Other specialty certifications related to specialty are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses, plans and evaluates medical care of assigned patients using current acceptable medical practice.
  • Coordinates the development, implementation and evaluation of policies and procedures necessary for effective and quality patient care.
  • Maintains medical records of assigned patients consistent with accepted medical and legal practice.
  • Works with the Quality Assurance Program to study and document the impact of various programs on health care delivery including costs. Assists the Quality Assurance Department in auditing medical records for proper documentation.
  • Participates on hospital and health care committees as assigned.
  • Evaluates the patients and writes admission orders. Writes holding orders for patients who have already been admitted and are waiting for the team evaluation and orders.
  • Assist admitting teams as assigned.
  • Performs related duties as required.
