About The Position

Holtz Children's Hospital at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center is one of the largest pediatric hospitals in the southeast United States. The Pediatric Exercise Physiologist develops, implements and coordinates exercise programs and administers medical tests, under physician's supervision, to pediatric patients. The PEP performs metabolic and non-metabolic stress tests on patients from birth to adult. In addition the PEP must perform EKGs, Holter testing, and measure lung function using Spirometer.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in related field is required
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) and any additional applicable life support certification for Healthcare Providers is required upon hire with at least 6 months validity and maintenance at JHS for the duration of employment.
  • FL-BLS

Nice To Haves

  • American Society of Exercise Physiologists (ASER) certification is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates exercise programs and administers tests including metabolic, non-metabolic stress, and 6-minute walk tests to patients, under physician's supervision.
  • Assists in recovering patients after stress tests.
  • Verifies the safety and performance of metabolic cart.
  • Calibrates metabolic unit before each patient use.
  • Prescribes exercise programs based on anaerobic threshold and oxygen consumption.
  • Measures oxygen consumption and lung function, using spirometry.
  • Records heart activity, using electrocardiograph machines using techniques and styles appropriate to the age and safety needs of the pediatric patient population.
  • Measures vital signs, heights, and weights and documents in the appropriate medical records.
  • Notifies physician of deviations from norms.
  • Prepares holter equipment and patients and attaches holter monitors to patients.
  • Tracks holters, submits for analysis, and maintains inventory.
  • Performs clerical duties e.g. appointment scheduling, no-shows tracking, reminder calls.
  • Performs patient charge posting.
  • Demonstrates behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Expertise).
  • Other duties as assigned.
