About The Position

This position involves ensuring optimal patient outcomes through effective leadership and/or provision of patient care delivery in assigned nursing unit(s) or area(s). It promotes an environment for a shared voice in nursing practice and exchange of ideas to continually improve nursing and patient care outcomes. The role is accountable for the quality, safety, and cost-effectiveness of patient care and consults and collaborates with other healthcare professionals to coordinate the management of patient care. The position serves as a resource to staff, physicians, students, and others. This role requires work as both a UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Supervisor and Central Patient Placement (CPP) RN, depending on departmental need. Under the direction of the Director of Hospital Operations, the Benioff Children’s Hospital Supervisor seeks to improve patient care delivery through problem-solving and crisis intervention, including disaster management on a broad level. The Hospital Supervisor is recognized as an administrative leader and clinical resource and is accountable for the optimal, safe, effective, and timely bed placement of all patients at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospitals. They utilize the nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to assist in the delivery of safe, therapeutic care. While functioning as a CPP RN, they are responsible for effective and timely bed placement for all patients transferring to and located at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital. They are responsible for assessing patient level of care placement needs, giving and receiving report. The CPP RN facilitates Pediatric Access Center admissions by screening patients for clinical necessity of the transfer and determining appropriate level of care. They also collaborate with Financial Counselors to ensure appropriateness of transfer, while acting as a liaison between the CPP department and UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Physicians, Nurses, Case Management, and Hospitality. The CPP RN works closely with the Benioff Children’s Hospital Supervisor in understanding organizational staffing needs, to include assisting with down-staffing measures. This position combines the CPP – Access Center Nurse with the Benioff Children’s Hospital Supervisor.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Experience as a UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Supervisor
  • Experience as a Central Patient Placement (CPP) RN
  • Ability to utilize nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Ability to screen patients for clinical necessity of transfer and determine appropriate level of care.
  • Ability to collaborate with Financial Counselors.
  • Ability to act as a liaison between departments.
  • Ability to understand organizational staffing needs and assist with down-staffing measures.
