About The Position

The Hospital Services Educator collaborates with Hospital Services leadership and the Education Department team to develop, lead and facilitate education and training for all Hospital Services team members. The Educator is required to ensure that all Hospital Services team members experience a comprehensive orientation experience that involves cross-departmental training and engagement experiences along with competency-based learning opportunities within and outside of the classroom. The Educator regularly collaborates with Hospital Services leadership to ensure that all department staff receive ongoing professional development education and training and annual competency assessments in accordance with role requirements. This education and training will be provided by the Educator through written, instructor-led, online and experiential-based programs that include Adult Learning principles. All education and training programs must be designed in a manner that fosters a growth mindset focusing on knowledge retention, skill development and competency achievement. In doing so, the Educator will work to meet or exceed standards for regulatory agencies while reflecting TOSA’s Core Values. This position may be required, on occasion, to travel by company, commercial, or personal automobile and light or commercial aircraft to accomplish the job responsibilities. The Educator will have access to confidential material and is required to use discretion with this information while strictly adhering to TOSA’s confidentiality policy.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in delivering healthcare education.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a learning and development field, psychology, healthcare, communications or related field is required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Functional skills related to teaching, data, technical, analytical, problem solving, organizational, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to function effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to function effectively in a team environment.
  • Physical requirements also include the ability to lift at least 50 lbs.

Nice To Haves

  • OPO experience preferred.
  • Experience with QPulse and Learning Management System (LMS) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with the Director of Education and Training as well as Hospital Services leadership to develop and maintain dynamic training and professional development programs to foster a growth mindset, address training and education gaps, increase skill development and meet competency requirements.
  • Engages in cross-departmental collaborative discussions to ensure that education-related standards are met; completes a gap analysis when needed to determine areas for educational and training growth.
  • Collaborates with the Director of Training and Education to create and maintain training modules/courses in TOSA’s LMS to ensure that department training is assigned, completed and documented in a standardized manner.
  • Partners with Education Department Educators to ensure that all hybrid roles within the Hospital Services Department receive required clinical training, competency assessment and certification.
  • Develops and implements a structured orientation process that clearly defines observation and training requirements along with competency requirements for all roles within the Hospital Services Department.
  • Assists in the identification and training of Hospital Services preceptors; oversees preceptors to ensure that they are following approved and standardized approaches and procedures during the training process; collaborates with preceptors to design experiential learning opportunities.
  • Oversees the creation and facilitation of on-going continuing education and professional development opportunities for Hospital Services team members; completes routine assessments of team member competencies; provides direct feedback regarding team member areas for growth.
  • Creates and oversees education-related performance improvement plans for team members with identified gaps in knowledge, skill or knowledge and skill; discusses needs with Hospital Services leadership to give and receive feedback on the status of plans; provides direct feedback and support to team members who are on plans.
  • Develops and maintains structured orientation and training calendars for all orientees and tenured staff who require additional training.
  • Represents TOSA in the delivery of presentations and authoring of case studies/abstracts with external organizations, such as NATCO, The Alliance and AOPO; pursues membership with these key organizations and actively participates in conferences, meetings and more.
  • Collaborates with the Education Department team members and the Director of Education and Training to create and implement strategic plans.
  • Achieves or exceeds personal and departmental performance metrics.
  • Routinely assesses training and education processes to ensure compliance with governing and accrediting agencies.
