The Hospital Pharmacist PRN is responsible for preparing and dispensing medication orders, providing drug information, ensuring safe and cost-effective medication therapies, and documenting related activities. This role involves detecting and reporting adverse drug reactions, participating in quality improvement initiatives, assisting with pharmacokinetic consults and antibiotic appropriateness reviews, and managing patient pain. The pharmacist also supervises pharmacy technicians, provides input for performance appraisals, and may act in the absence of the pharmacy director. Adherence to health system policies, safety regulations, and participation in meetings and quality improvement activities are essential. The role includes assisting new hires, reviewing literature, maintaining professional licensure and competence, managing the formulary, monitoring investigational drugs, handling controlled substances, and resolving discrepancies. The pharmacist serves as a role model and resource for retail pharmacy partners, maintaining professional practice through ongoing learning and self-evaluation.
