About The Position

The Hospital Operator serves as the primary point of contact for incoming calls to the hospital. The role efficiently directs calls, takes messages, and provides information to callers, supporting the smooth operation of the hospital’s communication systems. Calls must be handled promptly and professionally. This is a full-time position at Highland Park Hospital in Highland Park, Illinois, for 36 hours per week. The listed schedule includes Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m., with rotating Sundays from 6:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. The position requires work on three holidays per year and no travel.

Requirements

At least 1 year of experience in a telephone operator or customer service role is required; healthcare or hospital experience is preferred.
A bachelor’s degree is preferred.

Responsibilities

Professionally and courteously answer incoming calls and route them to the appropriate department or individual.
Provide general information about the hospital, including visiting hours, location, and services.
Record and relay messages accurately and promptly to hospital staff.
Respond to emergency situations and code calls by coordinating with appropriate personnel and promptly relaying urgent information.
Maintain detailed and accurate records of incoming and outgoing calls, messages, and communication activities.
Assist callers who may be distressed with empathy and professionalism.
Use telephone, paging, and intercom systems effectively and troubleshoot technical issues.
Follow hospital policies and protocols, including HIPAA patient privacy regulations, to maintain compliance and confidentiality.
Provide helpful, friendly customer service when addressing caller inquiries and concerns.
