About The Position

Petco is seeking a Hospital Leader On Duty (HLOD) to provide excellent veterinary care and customer service. The HLOD represents Petco's mission and values, fostering cohesion and motivation within the hospital team. This role involves direct patient and client interaction, assisting veterinarians, and maintaining the hospital environment.

Requirements

  • At least 1-year previous experience working in a veterinary practice or sufficient experience to ensure excellent performance.
  • Leadership capabilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Compassionate and sympathetic demeanor, able to maintain a professional attitude during emotional and stressful situations.
  • Telephone and computer skills.
  • Team player willing to learn new techniques and treatments, offer creative ideas, and accept change.

Responsibilities

  • Greet clients and patients, obtain weight and vital signs, and record information in the electronic medical record.
  • Collect thorough patient histories and document patient visits in EMRs.
  • Assist doctors with appointments (routine and emergency), surgery, dentistry, and euthanasia.
  • Perform patient restraint, obtain and process laboratory samples, handle and dispense medications.
  • Monitor and answer telephone lines, route calls, schedule appointments, and provide client education.
  • Relay test results to doctors and clients, and maintain/update client/patient records.
  • Prepare patients for surgical and dental procedures and assist with anesthesia.
  • Monitor patients under anesthesia and during recovery.
  • Perform in-hospital treatments for sick patients, including administering medications and fluids.
  • Keep patients clean, watered, and fed as directed, and walk canine patients when necessary.
  • Train new staff members and disseminate knowledge.
  • Keep the hospital environment neat and clean, performing regular cleaning based on necessity and a maintenance schedule.
  • Manage hospital inventory ordering or scheduling.
  • Answer practice phone lines and route calls appropriately.
  • Schedule appointments from callers or visitors.
  • Monitor wait times and make accommodations during peak times or emergencies.
  • Uphold and enforce all policies of Petco and Vetco Total Care.
  • Oversee hospital operations and supervise paraprofessional staff.
