About The Position

The Hospital Laboratory Manager is responsible for the daily management of individual Hospital Laboratory sites, representing the Joint Venture. This role ensures the delivery of quality control standards, establishes and implements standard operating procedures, and analyzes data to prepare reports. The manager acts as a leader for daily laboratory activities and represents the laboratory in hospital functional and leadership meetings. Key responsibilities include ensuring technical staff perform duties effectively, maintaining accuracy and reliability of lab services, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory standards and requirements. The role also involves overseeing staffing, planning and directing work, mentoring employees, and collaborating with various hospital departments and DLO QA.

Requirements

  • BS degree in Medical Technology to meet CLIA standards for a laboratory supervisor.
  • Broad knowledge of the technical aspects of the tests performed: Clinical Chemistry, Hematology, Immunology, Serology, Coagulation, Urinalysis, and Blood Bank.
  • Willingness to stay abreast of the latest innovations in test methodologies.
  • 5 or more years’ managerial experience in the laboratory industry.
  • MT(ASCP) or equivalent certification.
  • Interpersonal skills to gain cooperation with other departments and foster continuous improvements.
  • Flexibility and availability based on staffing requirements, including weekends, and holidays.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to address client concerns and employees in a professional manner.
  • Ability to make independent decisions and handle multiple priorities in a high-volume setting.
  • Ability to organize and lead projects both within the work group and with cross-functional groups.

  • Prior managerial experience is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Represent the Joint Venture in all individual Hospital Laboratory site daily management.
  • Ensure the JV is meeting expectations for quality control standards.
  • Establish, implement, and maintain standard operating procedures.
  • Collect and analyze data and prepare a variety of analyses and reports.
  • Perform duties as leader of the daily hospital laboratory activities.
  • Perform duties as a hospital department head, representing the laboratory in hospital functional and leadership meetings.
  • Ensure Laboratory Technical staff are effectively performing duties meeting both hospital expectations and the expectations of the Joint Venture.
  • Be accountable for the accuracy and reliability of all services provided by the lab departments under supervision.
  • Ensure policies and practices meet all regulatory standards and requirements.
  • Oversee staffing of all technical and non-technical personnel in the laboratory.
  • Plan, assign, and direct work in the laboratory, including oversight of staff schedules and payroll duties.
  • Mentor and support employees in their responsibilities in QC, testing, and ensure they receive training in supervisory skill development.
  • Work closely with Regional Manager, Point of Care Staff, Hospital Nursing Staff, and Hospital Administration.
  • Work closely with DLO QA to ensure compliance with QA program.
  • Meet physician’s needs by problem solving and resolving their concerns.
  • Attend meetings as needed by the hospital, including Huddles, Inspection teams, Patient Care, and Med Quality.
  • Review Quality Control records weekly and monthly.
  • Follow implemented QA program.
