About The Position

A leading hospital laboratory services organization is seeking an experienced Hospital Laboratory Director to oversee operations for a hospital-based clinical laboratory in Chattanooga, Tennessee. This leadership position directs laboratory programs, personnel, quality initiatives, and financial performance to ensure the delivery of accurate, efficient diagnostic services. The role requires a certified Medical Technologist with strong leadership experience managing complex laboratory operations in a hospital environment. The ideal candidate is a collaborative leader who can drive operational excellence, maintain regulatory compliance, and support high-quality patient care through effective laboratory management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology, Biomedical Science, Biology, or Chemistry
  • National Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT/MLS)
  • State laboratory license where required
  • 3+ years progressive laboratory management experience
  • Leadership experience managing complex clinical laboratory operations

  • Master’s Degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or related field
  • Experience in a hospital clinical laboratory environment

Responsibilities

  • Direct laboratory operations, programs, and activities to meet organizational and regulatory requirements
  • Ensure proper staffing through effective hiring, orientation, competency management, and training programs
  • Provide leadership through coaching, performance feedback, and staff development
  • Develop departmental strategies to achieve goals related to service quality, regulatory compliance, financial performance, and patient satisfaction
  • Monitor laboratory financial performance including resource utilization and operational efficiency
  • Prepare and present Monthly Operating Review (MOR) reports
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards including CAP, CLIA, JCAHO, FDA, and CMS
  • Develop and maintain laboratory policies and procedures with annual review and updates
  • Manage vendor relationships and supply contracts in coordination with supply chain leadership
  • Establish strong communication processes to ensure department alignment and engagement
  • Delegate operational responsibilities while maintaining compliance with regulatory guidelines
  • Evaluate staff performance and provide coaching, training, and professional development
