About The Position

A full-service acute care hospital in Nashville, Tennessee is seeking a Hospital Laboratory Director to lead clinical laboratory operations. This role oversees all laboratory programs, regulatory compliance, staffing strategy, and financial performance within a complex hospital laboratory environment. The Laboratory Director will drive operational excellence, ensure compliance with CAP, CLIA, CMS, FDA, and Joint Commission standards, and implement strategic initiatives to enhance quality, service delivery, and fiscal outcomes. This is a high-visibility leadership opportunity for an experienced laboratory executive ready to lead innovation within a hospital-based laboratory setting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology, Biomedical Science, Biology, or Chemistry
  • National Certification as a Medical Technologist (ASCP or equivalent)
  • State laboratory license (TN required for submission)
  • 3+ years of progressive laboratory management experience in complex laboratory operations
  • Leadership experience in a clinical laboratory setting

Responsibilities

  • Direct all laboratory operations, programs, and activities to meet regulatory and organizational standards.
  • Ensure proper staffing levels, competency validation, hiring, onboarding, and performance management.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and professional development for laboratory staff.
  • Develop and execute department strategies focused on quality, service, regulatory compliance, financial stewardship, and patient satisfaction.
  • Prepare and present Monthly Operating Review reports.
  • Monitor laboratory financial performance, manage resource utilization, and identify cost improvement opportunities.
  • Ensure compliance with CAP, CLIA, CMS, FDA, and Joint Commission standards.
  • Develop and maintain laboratory policies and procedures with annual review oversight.
  • Manage vendor relationships and laboratory supply contracts.
  • Foster open communication and implement structured communication plans within the department.
  • Delegate operational responsibilities in accordance with regulatory guidelines.
  • Continuously evaluate department performance and implement improvement initiatives.
