About The Position

Reporting to the operations manager and clinical microbiologists in Shared Hospital Laboratory, you will be responsible to provide support for ongoing laboratory research projects related to bacterial and viral pathogens including antimicrobial resistance, whole genome sequencing and bioinformatics, validation and verification of diagnostic assays and equipment, that are of relevance to SHL. The following are some tasks of the role: Conducting the analysis of datasets. Maintain accurate records of experimental procedures, results and observations. Advising on the design and deployment of molecular and culture-based assays Verification of reproducibility and accuracy of findings Assisting with lab operations duties (e.g. specimen retrieval and organization, assisting in maintaining Quality Management System) where needed. Development of procedures and guidelines Drafting and co-authorship of research publications and reports within a timely fashion. Other related duties as assigned. Works safely in accordance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act and regulations and use or wear any equipment, protective devices or clothing as required.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary (university or college) enrollment in a science program (upper level preferred)
  • Demonstrated problem recognition and problem solving-skills
  • Demonstrated good organizational skills, ability to organize work and set priorities.
  • Ability work independently or as a team member in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both verbal and written
  • Demonstrates values consistent with hospital Code of Conduct and is committed to fostering a healthy and positive work environment in accordance with Health & Safety policy and legislation
  • Utilize protective equipment provided and identify and reports hazards
  • Engages in ethical conduct and strives to understand and appreciate the diversity of our patient/staff population and community
