About The Position

A leading hospital laboratory services organization is seeking an experienced Hospital Laboratory Director to oversee clinical laboratory operations at a major hospital in Nashville, Tennessee. This leadership role is responsible for directing laboratory programs, managing staff and operations, maintaining regulatory compliance, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality diagnostic services. The ideal candidate is a certified Medical Technologist with strong hospital laboratory leadership experience and the ability to manage complex laboratory operations while driving quality, efficiency, and innovation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology, Biomedical Science, Biology, or Chemistry
  • National Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT/MLS)
  • State laboratory license where required
  • 5+ years progressive laboratory management experience
  • Experience managing complex clinical laboratory operations
  • Demonstrated leadership and staff management experience

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or related field
  • Prior leadership experience in a hospital clinical laboratory setting

Responsibilities

  • Direct laboratory operations, programs, and activities to meet organizational and regulatory standards
  • Ensure appropriate staffing levels through hiring, orientation, training, and competency management
  • Provide leadership through coaching, performance feedback, and staff development initiatives
  • Serve as a role model for professional conduct and operational excellence
  • Develop and execute departmental strategies focused on quality, service, compliance, and patient satisfaction
  • Monitor and manage laboratory financial performance including resource utilization and cost control
  • Prepare and present Monthly Operating Review (MOR) reports
  • Maintain compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards including CAP, CLIA, JCAHO, FDA, and CMS
  • Develop, implement, and maintain laboratory policies and procedures with annual review requirements
  • Manage vendor relationships and supply contracts in collaboration with supply chain leadership
  • Foster strong internal communication and encourage staff engagement and feedback
  • Delegate responsibilities appropriately to maintain operational efficiency and regulatory compliance
  • Evaluate staff performance and provide ongoing training and development opportunities
