About The Position

A hospital-based clinical laboratory in Nashville, Tennessee is seeking an experienced Hospital Laboratory Director to lead laboratory operations, staff development, regulatory compliance, and financial performance. This leadership position oversees all laboratory programs and services, ensuring high-quality diagnostic testing and operational efficiency. The Director will manage laboratory personnel, maintain compliance with regulatory standards, and implement strategies that improve laboratory performance and patient care outcomes. The ideal candidate is a certified Medical Technologist with demonstrated experience managing complex clinical laboratory operations in a hospital environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology, Biomedical Science, Biology, or Chemistry
  • National certification as a Medical Technologist (MT or MLS)
  • State laboratory license where required
  • 3+ years progressive laboratory management experience in complex clinical laboratory operations
  • Leadership experience managing laboratory staff

  • Master’s Degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or related field
  • Experience in a hospital clinical laboratory environment

Responsibilities

  • Direct laboratory operations, programs, and departmental activities to meet organizational and regulatory requirements
  • Ensure proper staffing through recruitment, orientation, competency validation, and professional development initiatives
  • Provide leadership through coaching, mentoring, and performance management
  • Develop and execute department strategies related to service quality, regulatory compliance, financial performance, and patient satisfaction
  • Monitor laboratory financial performance including budget oversight and resource utilization
  • Prepare and present Monthly Operating Review reports
  • Maintain compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards including CAP, CLIA, JCAHO, FDA, and CMS
  • Develop and maintain laboratory policies and procedures with required annual review and updates
  • Manage vendor relationships and laboratory supply contracts in coordination with supply chain leadership
  • Implement effective communication strategies to ensure departmental alignment and transparency
  • Delegate responsibilities appropriately while maintaining compliance with regulatory guidelines
  • Evaluate staff performance and provide coaching, training, and operational guidance
