About The Position

GHJ Search and Staffing, the recruitment division of GHJ, is assisting an independent, community-based hospital in Georgia with its search for a Chief Financial Officer. This hospital is experiencing growth and seeks a leader familiar with the unique economics of rural healthcare. The organization blends the mission of a community hospital with advanced clinical capabilities and growth. Its expanding services, advanced clinical offerings, and investments in facilities and technology have created a sophisticated financial environment. This is an operational CFO role where revenue cycle is central, but the scope extends beyond traditional financial reporting. The CFO will be responsible for driving financial performance, guiding reimbursement strategy, financing expansion, developing clinical leaders, and partnering with the CEO and board.

Requirements

  • Meaningful finance leadership experience within a Critical Access Hospital is strongly preferred; substantial rural hospital experience will also be considered
  • Deep, hands-on knowledge of hospital revenue cycle operations
  • Working command of Critical Access Hospital cost-based reimbursement
  • Strong accounting, financial analysis, cash management, and strategic planning capabilities
  • Experience partnering with operational and clinical leaders, not simply reporting financial results
  • Ability to communicate effectively with boards, executives, clinicians, and community stakeholders
  • A grounded, collaborative leadership style and desire to become part of the community

Nice To Haves

  • Current or previous hospital CFO experience
  • Capital expansion, debt financing, or USDA Rural Development financing experience
  • Swing bed program or surgical service line experience
  • Fundraising or foundation exposure
  • MBA, MHA, or other relevant advanced degree

Responsibilities

  • Own the full financial strategy and performance of a growing Critical Access Hospital
  • Provide hands-on leadership across revenue cycle, including patient access, case management, HIM, and patient financial services
  • Drive key revenue cycle metrics including collections, DNFB, point-of-service collections, and cash performance
  • Oversee Medicare cost reporting and ensure operational decisions are evaluated through the lens of CAH reimbursement
  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, audits, compliance, cash management, and long-term financial planning
  • Guide financing and financial strategy for significant capital and clinical expansion projects
  • Partner with clinical leaders to strengthen budgeting, labor management, and financial decision-making
  • Build trusted relationships with executive leadership, the governing board, finance committee, and community stakeholders
