About The Position

We invite applications for a Hospital and EMU Rounder- Nocturnist at Doctors Community Hospital. Requirements

  • MD or DO
  • Board Certified or Eligible in Internal Medicine
  • Currently licensed or able to obtain licenses in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive overnight medical care, including admissions, cross-coverage, management of acute clinical issues, participation in medical emergencies and code responses, support of patient throughput and disposition, and overnight coverage of designated skilled nursing facilities (SNFs), as applicable.
  • Evaluate and manage Extended Monitoring Unit (EMU) patients, including clinical reassessment, diagnostic evaluation, treatment planning, coordination with consultants and the daytime Hospital Medicine team, and determination of the most appropriate disposition, including observation, inpatient admission, or discharge.
  • Evaluate the appropriateness of hospitalization and level of care for newly admitted patients in collaboration with the Emergency Department, consultants, nursing, and care management teams.
  • Support appropriate utilization of hospital resources and consider alternative care pathways when clinically appropriate.
  • Respond promptly to urgent clinical issues, rapid clinical deterioration, and overnight patient care needs, including coordination of specialty consultations when necessary.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, nursing staff, consultants, Emergency Department teams, and the multidisciplinary care team.
  • Facilitate safe transitions of care through clear and comprehensive handoffs to the daytime Hospital Medicine team.
  • Complete accurate and timely clinical documentation, including admission evaluations, progress notes, and other required documentation.
  • Practice independently overnight while collaborating closely with the broader Hospital Medicine team to provide safe, high-quality, efficient, and patient-centered care.
