Responsible for recruiting, training, scheduling, supervising, and supporting hospice volunteers while ensuring compliance with hospice regulations and maintaining accurate volunteer records. This role also collaborates with clinical teams to match volunteers with patient needs. Oversee ongoing volunteer education, engagement, and retention programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of training and experience required.
  • Ability to relate to terminally ill patients and their families.
  • Understanding and support of hospice philosophy
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, telephone, documentation and communication skills.
  • Must possess the disposition and personality to work harmoniously with a wide variety of people and all levels of staff and interact professionally as a member of a multidisciplinary team

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in program development, management and clinical supervision are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit, interview, and select volunteers for hospice programs
  • Responsible for orientation and ongoing training and supervision of volunteers consistent with the duties and functions to be performed to satisfy Medicare COP for hospice program.
  • Reviews appropriateness of volunteer involvement upon referral from nursing/social work personnel.
  • With other members of the Hospice Team, provide supervision and serve as a resource and liaison for volunteers.
  • Completes IDG documentation and care plans accurately and timely.
  • Active participant in biweekly IDG meeting
  • Coordinates an annual volunteer recognition event.
  • Responsible for volunteer retention. This may include support groups, telephone calls, flyers, meeting with the volunteers on an individual basis.
