Hospice RN (Inpatient)
About The Position
As an inpatient registered nurse, you will provide comfort-focused care to hospice patients whose symptoms have become too severe to manage at home. You will assess and manage acute, complex, or uncontrolled symptoms, such as pain and shortness of breath, to keep patients comfortable during their end-of-life journeys. The role also involves building compassionate connections with patients and the people in their lives, advocating for patient and family goals of care, and providing basic hospice education and training to patients, families, and caregivers. You will work with an interdisciplinary hospice team that includes LPNs, aides, chaplains, social workers, and physicians. Inpatient nurses work every day at a single VITAS inpatient unit. The role is part of VITAS Healthcare, an end-of-life care provider that supports employee growth and promotes from within.
Requirements
- An associate or bachelor's degree in nursing.
- A valid RN license.
- At least one year of hospital nursing experience.
- Reliable transportation.
Responsibilities
- Provide comfort-focused inpatient nursing care for hospice patients whose symptoms are too severe to be managed at home.
- Assess and manage acute, complex, or uncontrolled symptoms, such as pain and shortness of breath, to keep patients comfortable.
- Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team of hospice clinicians, including LPNs, aides, chaplains, social workers, and physicians.
- Advocate for patients and families by ensuring their goals of care are communicated and prioritized by the care team.
- Provide basic hospice education and training to patients, families, and caregivers.
