About The Position

As an inpatient registered nurse, you provide comfort-focused hospice care for patients whose symptoms have become too severe to manage at home. You assess and manage acute, complex, or uncontrolled symptoms, such as pain and shortness of breath, to help keep patients comfortable during end-of-life care. You work with an interdisciplinary team of hospice clinicians and advocate for patients and families, making sure each patient’s goals of care are communicated and prioritized. You also provide basic hospice education and training to patients, families, and caregivers, while delivering compassionate, personalized care that honors each patient’s wishes. Inpatient nurses work every day at a single VITAS inpatient unit.

Requirements

Associate or bachelor’s degree in nursing.
Valid RN license.
At least one year of hospital nursing experience.
Reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

Provide comfort-focused inpatient nursing care for hospice patients whose symptoms are too severe to be managed at home.
Assess and manage acute, complex, or uncontrolled symptoms, such as pain and shortness of breath.
Collaborate with interdisciplinary hospice clinicians, including LPNs, aides, chaplains, social workers, and physicians.
Advocate for patients and families by ensuring patients’ goals of care are communicated and prioritized by the care team.
Provide basic hospice education and training to patients, families, and caregivers.
