About The Position

The Hospice Registered Nurse (RN) provides compassionate, patient-centered care to individuals with terminal illnesses and their families. The role focuses on comfort, symptom management, emotional support, and dignified end-of-life care. The nurse works collaboratively with physicians, social workers, chaplains, and other healthcare professionals to support patients and families. This is a full-time weekday position with eight-hour day shifts and a rotating after-hours on-call schedule. On-call pay is $40 for Monday through Friday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:30 a.m., and $90 for 24 hours on Saturday, Sunday, or a holiday.

Requirements

Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state where work is performed.
At least 2 years of nursing experience.
Strong clinical skills and knowledge of nursing principles, procedures, and best practices in long-term care.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with patients, families, caregivers, and healthcare professionals.
Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple responsibilities, and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Understanding of regulatory requirements in hospice settings and nursing practices.
Ability to build rapport with patients through a compassionate and caring demeanor.
Ability to lift and transfer patients, with or without assistance, up to 50 pounds.
Ability to bend, stand, walk, and climb stairs for extended periods.
Strength to handle medical equipment and assist patients with mobility and physical activities.
Visual acuity and dexterity for reading medical records, administering injections, and handling delicate medical instruments.
Ability to respond swiftly and efficiently to emergencies.
Ability to work in varied home environments, including stairs, tight spaces, and uneven surfaces.
Ability to maintain regular attendance and punctuality according to the schedule set by the department supervisor or manager.
Ability to accept criticism and remain calm and effective in high-stress situations.
Ability to use abdominal and lower-back muscles repeatedly or continuously to support the body without fatiguing.
Ability to keep the hand and arm steady while moving or holding them in position.

Responsibilities

Assess patients’ physical, emotional, and spiritual needs.
Develop and implement individualized care plans with patients, families, and hospice staff.
Administer medications, manage pain and symptoms, and perform medical procedures as needed.
Monitor and document patient progress, changes in condition, and responses to treatment.
Educate patients and families about disease progression, care options, and symptom management.
Coordinate care with physicians, therapists, and other healthcare professionals.
Provide emotional and psychological support to patients and families, address concerns, and facilitate end-of-life care discussions.
Coordinate with hospice team members to ensure comprehensive and continuous care.
Advocate for patients’ preferences and needs while respecting their values and wishes.
Maintain accurate, up-to-date patient records in compliance with regulatory and organizational standards.
Participate in the after-hours on-call rotation.
Perform other assigned duties.
