About The Position

HopeHealth is hiring a Hospice Medical Doctor to serve as medical director for a hospice team in Rhode Island caring for approximately 80–100 home hospice patients. The position includes 16 hours per week for clinical patient visits, interdisciplinary group (IDG) meetings, and calls from team nurses, plus 8 hours per week as “Doctor of the Day,” supporting daily hospice admissions. The role may be blended with inpatient palliative care to create a full-time position. The physician will join an established hospice program within an organization that operates seven home hospice teams.

HopeHealth is a regional not-for-profit hospice and palliative care provider serving Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts, and a Major Teaching Affiliate of the Warren Alpert Medical School at Brown University for hospice and palliative medicine. The organization provides inpatient palliative care consultation through partnerships with academic and community hospitals and offers opportunities for clinical teaching, quality improvement, and research.

Responsibilities

• Provide clinical visits to home hospice patients.
• Participate in interdisciplinary group (IDG) meetings.
• Cover calls from hospice team nurses.
• Serve as Doctor of the Day, supporting daily hospice admissions.
• Work with admission nurses to determine patient eligibility.
• Write certifications of terminal illness.
• Make decisions about medication coverage.
• Provide initial hospice care until the primary hospice team assumes care.
