About The Position

Provides personal care to patients receiving services by MercyOne North Iowa Hospice. This role involves effective communication and documentation, providing temporary relief to patient's family, participating in meetings and in-services, and collaborating with peers for scheduling. The position requires flexibility, the ability to work with frequent interruptions, efficient utilization of resources, and maintaining confidentiality and HIPPA regulations. The aide will provide competent patient care, adapting procedures based on age-specific knowledge, and will take an active role in personal and professional growth.

Requirements

  • Certification from a Certified Nurse’s Aide (CNA) program through classroom and supervised practical training totaling at least 75 hours with 16 hours devoted to supervised practical training, must have a minimum of 12 hours of in-service per year to maintain CNA Certification OR Currently enrolled in an ADN, BSN, diploma program with successful completion of first semester of ADN program, OR first year completion of nursing courses in BSN or Diploma program, OR graduate of an ADN, Diploma, BSN or LPN program.
  • Must pass Hospice competency requirements
  • Supervised by a licensed nurse.
  • Aide experience strongly preferred.
  • Ability to successfully complete competency testing
  • Ability to read, write and carry out directions and accept supervision required.
  • Empathetic attitude toward the care of the sick and dying and their families.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to individual development.
  • Ability to work independently yet within a team structure.
  • Competent or willing to learn and develop competence with computer skills and programs and access in a timely manner.
  • Ability to be flexible, do a variety of duties and to prioritize with frequent interruptions.
  • Must be able to read, write and/or speak English.

Responsibilities

  • Effective oral and written communication including timely documentation with all interdisciplinary team members and reports significant changes in patient’s condition to registered nurse.
  • Completion of care plan documentation in a timely manner.
  • Provides temporary relief to patient’s family when in the home setting/nursing facility.
  • Participates in regularly scheduled meetings and in-services and maintains competencies.
  • Collaborates with peers to complete weekly/monthly scheduling and follows guidelines.
  • Organizes and prioritizes workload within assigned shift/caseload; including the ability to demonstrate flexibility.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work with frequent interruptions in order to meet patient/family needs across MercyOne North Iowa Hospice.
  • Utilizes Hospice resources efficiently.
  • Maintains required department confidentiality and abides by HIPPA regulations.
  • Provides competent patient care to the above indicated patient populations by obtaining and appropriately interpreting data, making appropriate decisions based on demonstrated knowledge of age-specific growth and development, and appropriately adapting procedures and treatments.
  • Takes an active role in enhancing ability to carry out job functions through personal and professional/job-related growth and development and participates in medical center and/or departmental education programs.
