About The Position

The Hospice Chaplain is an integral part of the hospice interdisciplinary team and is responsible for assessing the spiritual needs of the hospice patient and family. The chaplain must be prepared to care for patients of diverse cultures and/or religious backgrounds. Understanding that spiritual services must be delivered in a manner that is consistent with patient/family beliefs and desire for service. The chaplain coordinates spiritual services offered through the hospice staff, local religious organizations or community clergy. Provides funeral services when requested, and assists family with this planning. Provides bereavement support. Assists with public speaking/training concerning spiritual issues, end of life concerns, hospice care, etc. for other health care providers.

Requirements

  • At least 2 units of CPE with a plan for completing 4 units.
  • 5 years related experience and/or training.
  • Prior healthcare chaplaincy experience required.
  • Exceptional listening skills.
  • Able to work with individuals.
  • Commitment to organizational goals.
  • Knowledge of proper English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation.
  • Time management skills.
  • Ability to read, write and communicate face to face and by phone effectively in English.
  • Computer skills.
  • Valid driver's license, personal auto and current auto liability insurance.
  • Satisfactory results from current TB test.
  • At least three units of CPE (Clinical Pastoral Education) required with the intent to complete all four units for certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of death, dying and bereavement preferred.
  • Experience with end of life issues and hospice services.
  • Prior experience using electronic health systems preferred.
