About The Position

The Hospice Chaplain is an integral part of the hospice interdisciplinary team, responsible for assessing the spiritual needs of hospice patients and their families. This role requires sensitivity to diverse cultural and religious backgrounds, ensuring spiritual services align with patient/family beliefs. The chaplain coordinates spiritual services with hospice staff, local religious organizations, and community clergy. Responsibilities include providing funeral services and assistance with planning, offering bereavement support, and conducting public speaking/training on spiritual issues, end-of-life concerns, and hospice care for healthcare providers.

Requirements

• At least 2 units of CPE with a plan for completing 4 units.
• 5 years related experience and/or training.
• Prior healthcare chaplaincy experience required.
• Exceptional listening skills.
• Able to work with individuals.
• Commitment to organizational goals.
• Knowledge of proper English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
• Time management skills.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively face-to-face and by phone in English.
• Computer skills.
• Valid driver's license, personal auto, and current auto liability insurance.
• Satisfactory results from current TB test.

Nice To Haves

• Knowledge of death, dying, and bereavement.
• Experience with end-of-life issues and hospice services.
• Prior experience using electronic health systems.

Responsibilities

• Assess the spiritual needs of the hospice patient and family.
• Care for patients of diverse cultures and/or religious backgrounds.
• Deliver spiritual services in a manner consistent with patient/family beliefs and desires.
• Coordinate spiritual services offered through hospice staff, local religious organizations, or community clergy.
• Provide funeral services when requested and assist family with planning.
• Provide bereavement support.
• Assist with public speaking/training concerning spiritual issues, end-of-life concerns, hospice care, etc., for other healthcare providers.
