Hospice Aides provide hands-on, end-of-life care to support patient comfort, dignity, and quality of life in homes and care facilities. The role involves providing hands-on support with personal care, including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, oral hygiene, meal preparation, and mobility, to help patients maintain their quality of life in their homes. This position is ideal for a caring professional who finds purpose in building meaningful connections and serving others with empathy and compassion, working closely with nurses and the interdisciplinary care team.

Requirements

  • Completed a minimum of 75 hours of classroom and supervised practical training.
  • Sixteen hours of classroom must be completed prior to a mandatory 16 hours of practical training.
  • Must hold current certification as a nurse aide and be in good standing on the state nurse aide registry.
  • Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and valid automobile insurance coverage.
  • Must be able to read and write in English and follow written and verbal instructions in English effectively.
  • Understands hospice philosophy, comfortable providing specialized care to the terminally ill in the home or facility.
  • Is self-directing with the ability to work with little direct supervision.
  • Secure with issues of death/dying.
  • Provides a calm manner when in a patient’s home.
  • Has empathy for the needs of the ill, injured, frail and the impaired.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as a Hospice Aide, Home Health Aide, or Certified Nursing Assistant.

Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on, end-of-life care that supports patient comfort, dignity, and quality of life in homes and care facilities.
  • Assist patients with personal care, including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, oral hygiene, meal preparation, and mobility.
  • Develop trusting relationships with patients and families.
  • Work closely with nurses and other members of the interdisciplinary care team to support each patient's unique needs.
  • Provide reassurance, preserve dignity, and make a lasting impact during an important stage of the patient's journey.
