Hospice Admissions RN

VITAS Healthcare•Newark, NJ

About The Position

As an admissions nurse at VITAS Healthcare, you are often the first person to introduce patients and families to hospice. You discuss end-of-life care in depth, help set expectations for the journey ahead, and provide compassionate, personalized care that honors each patient’s wishes. You travel within an assigned service area to meet with patients and families in hospitals, nursing facilities, and patient residences, assessing each patient’s need for care as calls arrive. You educate patients and families about hospice benefits and VITAS services, listen empathetically to understand each patient’s needs, wants, and beliefs, help determine whether hospice is appropriate, and support a comfortable transition for patients who choose VITAS hospice care. Most admissions nurses work four 10-hour shifts per week, though schedules may vary. VITAS describes itself as the nation’s leading end-of-life care provider since 1978, with programs in more than 15 states. The organization says it supports career growth, promotes from within, and offers an award-winning employee experience.
