Requirements

Completion of Secondary School
5 years’ of grounds maintenance experience on a large and diverse exterior property
Experience operating light and heavy machinery
Certificate or Qualification in landscaping and pesticide application
Mechanically inclined with experience repairing and maintaining small and large grounds equipment
Ability to work independently with little supervision
Excellent organization and prioritization skills
Ability to read and understand blueprints

Responsibilities

Plan, design, estimate, and interpret drawings and work on renovation, grounds projects, or new equipment installations
Winter snow management, and make contact with additional snow removal staff or contractors
Winter circle check and deicing, and order sand and ice melters
Turf management including grass, cutting, trimming, and applying fertilizer
Complete regular scheduled application of weed control, and ensure contractor abides with regulations
Fall and spring clean-up of grounds and gardens including sweeping sand from walks and roadways
Plan and maintain garden beds
Trim trees, brushes, and hedges
Operate irrigation systems when required
Frequently empty waste containers
Service, repair, ad perform preventative maintenance on designated equipment
Maintain and make recommendations for replacement as necessary of exterior signs, furniture, and roadway markings
Observe and coordinate contracted trades when required
Review new work orders, and determine appropriateness of requests
Work from ladders, scaffolds, or roofs may be required
Use a variety of tools and equipment such as power construction equipment, measuring devices, meters, power and hand tools
