About The Position

Tidewater Community College (TCC) is seeking an Horticulture Adjunct faculty member responsible for teaching courses in their area of expertise. The role involves planning, organizing, and delivering instruction in a classroom, remote (via Zoom), or online environment. The adjunct faculty member will foster student learning, provide timely and effective feedback, and engage students outside of class through office hours. TCC is a large institution serving South Hampton Roads with a history of 50 years, providing higher education and workforce services.

Requirements

• Specific training or competence in the subject matter to be taught.
• Ability to plan, organize, teach, and provide feedback to students.
• Proficiency in creating a learning environment that facilitates knowledge and skill acquisition.
• Skill in aligning course activities with student learning outcomes.
• Ability to employ a variety of active learning strategies.
• Competence in using appropriate technology and supporting materials.
• Ability to provide prompt and meaningful feedback to students.
• Skill in communicating with students in a timely and respectful manner.
• Ability to deliver instruction in support of stated learning outcomes.
• Adherence to college policies and procedures for student surveys of instruction.
• Ability to conduct meaningful and timely assessments of student learning.
• Ability to analyze previous semester's evaluation of instruction and develop action plans.

Responsibilities

• Create a learning environment that facilitates students’ acquisition of knowledge and skills in a discipline and/or program.
• Align course activities with student learning outcomes, employ active learning strategies, utilize appropriate technology, and provide prompt and meaningful feedback to students.
• Deliver instruction in support of stated learning outcomes, adhere to college policies, conduct meaningful assessments of student learning, and analyze evaluation of instruction to implement action plans.
• Hold at least 1 office hour per week for each course assigned.
