About The Position

Culver Academies is a private boarding school seeking a Horse Trainer to support its mission of educating students for leadership and responsible citizenship. Located on 1,800 acres in Culver, Indiana, the school emphasizes the development of the whole individual. The Horse Trainer will play a key role in the Horsemanship Program, ensuring the well-being and training of the program's horses.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or High School Equivalency.
• At least four years of horse training experience.
• Experience of riding over ground poles and fences for training.
• Competent at lunging and long reining with the use of training aids.
• Valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
• Comfortable working around horses.
• Ability to lift 50+ lbs frequently.
• Physically capable of extensive bending, stooping, and walking.
• Ability to work as part of a team.
• Willingness to work a flexible schedule as weekends and holidays may be required.

Nice To Haves

• Completion of an accredited Equine Study Program with an emphasis on military riding as it pertains to drills, parades, and ceremonial riding events.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate the capabilities of the program’s horses.
• Retrain or cross-train horses based on initial assessment.
• Break and train newly purchased or donated horses for successful integration into Culver’s Horsemanship Program.
• Perform all duties relating to horse grooming, clipping and trimming, saddlery maintenance, and exercising.
• Maintain a safe and clean stable environment.
