About The Position

The Horn/Guitar Teacher provides instruction and ensemble support for the middle school Rock Band Camp group in a pop/rock performance setting. This position focuses on developing student skills on horns and guitar/bass through part assignment, technique instruction, section rehearsals, and co-teaching full ensemble rehearsals. The teacher also supports equipment setup and ensures a safe, inclusive learning environment.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience teaching horns and/or guitar/bass, and coaching ensemble performance.
  • Knowledge of pop/rock performance styles and rehearsal practices.
  • Ability to work effectively with middle school students across a range of skill levels.
  • Employment contingent upon successful completion of required district hiring steps (e.g., background checks and mandatory trainings, as applicable).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience leading sectionals and supporting student solo development.
  • School-based or youth music program teaching/coaching experience.
  • Comfort supporting basic equipment setup in a performance-based setting.

Responsibilities

  • Assign parts for horns, guitar, and bass players in the middle school group.
  • Teach parts and proper techniques for horn and guitar/bass players within a pop/rock ensemble (tone, articulation, style, timing, and ensemble blend).
  • Teach solo techniques for students assigned solo passages to build confidence and performance readiness.
  • Lead horn section rehearsals to strengthen intonation, phrasing, balance, and ensemble cohesion.
  • Co-teach full-group rehearsals with other band directors, emphasizing balance, teamwork, groove, and stage performance to support optimum ensemble performance.
  • Set up, organize, and monitor safe use of equipment (stands, amps as applicable, cables, microphones as applicable, and storage).
  • Create and maintain a safe, supportive, and well-supervised learning environment for all students.
  • Collaborate consistently and communicate effectively with fellow directors and program leadership.
  • Maintain clear rehearsal routines and positive rehearsal culture appropriate for middle school students.
  • Demonstrate punctuality, preparedness, reliability, and professionalism throughout the program.
  • Follow district and program protocols, including approved communication procedures and student safety expectations.
