About The Position

Flexicrew Technical Services (FTS) is seeking a Horizontal CNC Machinist for a contract assignment in South Houston. The Horizontal CNC Machinist will produce precision-machined parts from a variety of materials while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and productivity. This role requires the ability to independently set up and operate Horizontal CNC machines, edit programs, troubleshoot machining issues, and ensure all products meet required specifications.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3+ years of CNC machining experience operating Horizontal CNC machines.
  • Experience with Horizontal Machining Centers (HMCs), Horizontal Mills, or similar CNC equipment.
  • Proficiency with Fanuc or similar CNC controls.
  • Ability to independently perform machine setups, tooling changes, work offsets, and program edits.
  • Strong understanding of G-code programming and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and GD&T specifications.
  • Experience using precision measuring instruments and inspection equipment.
  • Knowledge of machining practices, tooling applications, speeds, and feeds for various materials.
  • Strong mathematical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Ability to speak and read English; bilingual Spanish preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate Horizontal CNC machines, including Horizontal Machining Centers (HMCs) and other CNC milling equipment utilizing Fanuc or similar controls.
  • Independently perform machine setups, including tooling selection, fixture setup, work offsets, and calculating machine speeds and feeds.
  • Read and interpret computer-generated work orders, engineering drawings, blueprints, sketches, charts, and specifications.
  • Edit and modify existing CNC programs using G-code to improve part quality and production efficiency.
  • Perform required mathematical computations related to machining operations and part dimensions.
  • Inspect parts visually and dimensionally to ensure conformance to specifications and tolerances.
  • Utilize precision measuring instruments including calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, indicators, and height gauges.
  • Troubleshoot machining issues and make adjustments as necessary to maintain quality and productivity standards.
  • Verify tooling, fixtures, and machine components are in proper working condition prior to production.
  • Monitor machine performance and make adjustments to offsets, tooling, and programs as needed.
  • Scan machining steps in shop travelers, scan completed pieces, and close out machining steps upon completion.
  • Complete inspection reports and production documentation accurately.
  • Verify material heat numbers, quantities, and traceability requirements.
  • Notify Production Supervisor or Quality Control personnel of any nonconforming products or materials.
  • Follow Quality Policy and department processes, including proper identification and segregation of non-conforming materials.
  • Utilize required PPE and participate in daily safety meetings.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment while remaining aware of potential hazards.
  • Dispose of waste properly using appropriate equipment and designated receptacles.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, quality personnel, engineers, and fellow team members.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support production goals and company objectives.
