About The Position

Eaton’s IS AER FMC division is currently seeking a Hone and Lap Machinist A - 2nd Shift. The core hours are 1:45pm to 10:15pm. The hourly rate for this position is $37.26 plus $2/hr shift differential per hour. The LA facility has approximately 300 employees and is a leader in the design, development, manufacture and delivery of Aerospace hydraulic components, systems and services to the global aftermarket and OEM markets.

Requirements

High School Diploma required from an accredited institution
Minimum 7 years experience in machining, honing, or lapping parts in a manufacturing environment.
This position requires access to export-controlled information. To conform to U.S. Government export regulations applicable to that information, applicant must be a U.S. person, defined as a (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful, permanent resident (green card holder), (iii) refugee under 8 U.S.C. 1157, or (iv) asylee under 8 U.S.C. 1158.

Nice To Haves

Aerospace experience preferred.
8 plus years experience in machining, honing or lapping parts in a manufacturing environment.
Involvement in successful process definition and re-engineering.
Experience in employee involvement in multi-discipline teaming.
Proficiency with computer based methods and tools.
Familiarity /experience with Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen events, and continuous improvement and Six Sigma methodology.
Experienced with multiple machine tools, production methods and shop practices preferred.
Ability to learn equipment and processes for fabrication of aerospace parts, produce parts in accordance with the production plans, sketches and/or verbal instructions.
Ability to maintain close tolerance dimensions on critical parts.
Knowledge of dimensional measuring instrumentations and use of such tools to verify actual measurements of machined diameters, dimensions and features.
Ability to read and interpret drawings, sketches, manufacturing routings, procedures, and routers.
Good verbal and written communication skills a must.
Familiarity with SPC principles and methods.
Ability to produce and inspect critical parts with tight tolerances and finishes, with minimal supervision.
Ability to logically solve problems and to keep assignments and projects moving in an orderly and structured fashion.

Responsibilities

Set up complex parts and operate manual and CNC machines without supervision.
Honing, lapping, and grinding parts
Interpret plans, work order, blueprints or drawings to determine the necessary work required, full understanding of GD&T.
Inspect parts for quality and appropriate tolerance using the appropriate measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, airgages and comparators.
Finish all parts with different materials to close tolerance without supervision.
Examine surface of work piece for defects before starting work.
Meet production and quality requirements at all times, always keep work area clean.
Modify machining feed and speeds on multiple material types and select tooling, gauges as/if required.
Use measuring tools, air gauges, micrometers and other inspection tools to verify part quality.
Replace worn tools, inspect parts and adjust tool offsets as needed.
Be a team player and follow all safety rules and regulations.
