About The Position

The City of Edmonton is seeking a Homelessness Prevention Coordinator to join their Affordable Housing and Homelessness section. This role focuses on a long-term, systems-level strategy to reduce homelessness by developing integrated ecosystems, governance models, and performance indicators. The position involves strategic oversight and operational leadership, including supervising a team of Tenant Supports Consultants who provide eviction prevention and housing stabilization support. The goal is to coordinate action and drive transformative change to end homelessness before it starts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences, Human Ecology, Social Work, Recreation Administration, Planning, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related discipline
  • A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in related work
  • Experience navigating levels of government, large corporations, and community organizations
  • For Social Work degree holders, current registration with the Alberta College of Social Workers is required
  • High degree of independent judgment, professionalism, and discretion with the ability to work proactively with minimal direction
  • Strong leadership, negotiation, and team-building skills
  • Excellent critical thinking and the ability to synthesize complex concepts
  • Superior verbal and written communication, presentation, and facilitation skills
  • Keen understanding of the political processes involved in gaining support for municipal initiatives

  • Hire is dependent on Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton, and there may be a cost associated with this requirement
  • Candidates are required to hold a valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s license (or provincial equivalent) or higher.
  • Candidates will be required to arrange their own transportation and, where appropriate, will be reimbursed in accordance with City of Edmonton policy.
  • This may require the candidate to obtain business-use auto insurance

Responsibilities

  • Lead and ensure the success of City-funded homelessness prevention programs, both internal and those operated by community partners
  • Facilitate cross-corporate planning and coordination to prevent the inflow into homelessness
  • Develop and implement the City’s homelessness prevention strategy and integrated prevention ecosystems
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with internal partners, other orders of government, and community partners including the homeless serving section, Edmonton Public Libraries, and Fire Rescue Service
  • Establish and maintain formal relationships with internal partners, other orders of government, and community partners using charters and MOUs
  • Provide coaching, mentorship, and performance management for a team of four Landlord and Tenant Consultants
  • Execute and manage contracts with service providers, monitoring budgets and performance outcomes
  • Co-chair the Homelessness Prevention Network to unify systems-level responses between the City and its partners
  • Draft Council Reports, briefing notes, and presentations to provide recommendations on corporate direction to leadership
  • Other duties as assigned
