About The Position

LakeVille Community Schools is seeking a highly motivated candidate to serve as an Home to School Liaison. The role of a Home to School Liaison is to work with parents and students in identifying and achieving goals; to access support services; to create training programs; and to facilitate positive parent, school, and student relationships.

Requirements

Possession of a Bachelor’s degree or higher.
Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administration, students, and parents.
Must have excellent organizational skills and the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Must satisfactorily pass a criminal background check as defined by the State of Michigan.

Nice To Haves

Teaching Certificate preferred.

Responsibilities

Administer programs/activities to bridge the gap between home and school for the purpose of helping parents receive information and support needed to ensure their students' academic and social success in compliance with established guidelines.
Assess family and student needs (e.g., conduct surveys and interviews) to develop and implement an action plan to remove barriers to the child's success in school.
Connect parents, teachers, staff, and students with health plans, and classroom plans (e.g., school supplies, athletic programs, medical/dental/vision assistance, food/clothing/housing assistance, mental health resources, after-school activities, school expectations, etc.) for the purpose of establishing and writing family goals, plans, and success strategies.
Implement a variety of programs to involve parents, students, and the community in school affairs (e.g., site tours, information on services, parent training workshops, etc.) to establish familiarity with programs, services, and processes.
Participate in a variety of meetings and committees (e.g., serves as liaison for parents, child advocate; conventions, classes and seminars to increase parent involvement, decrease attendance issues, decrease dropout rates, updates on laws that pertain to foster care, etc.) for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions and remaining knowledgeable with program guidelines.
Develop and implement attendance improvement plans.
Plan family meetings and parent involvement events (e.g., health and welfare, nutrition, counseling, problem-solving, conflict resolution, emotional, physical, and academic support; clubs and groups, etc.) to meet family support needs and comply with established guidelines.
Provide parental support in a variety of areas to develop and write plans to remove barriers to the child's success in school, and to support the family in basic life skills.
Work directly with external agencies, such as social services and law enforcement, to ensure the well-being of students and families.
Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the work unit's efficient and effective operation.
