About The Position

ćećəwət leləm "Helping House" provides wholistic, culturally integrated health & wellness services for Indigenous clients and families. Our interdisciplinary teams include community health programming; primary care services; home care services; peer support, harm reduction, and crisis response; integrative therapy; wholistic wellness; and Indigenous Elders, Healers, and Knowledge Keepers. Together, we strive to support Tsleil-Waututh Nation members and families through care that is trauma-informed, relationship-centered, and guided by the Nation’s teachings on balance and interconnectedness.

Requirements

  • Current practicing registration as a Registered Care Aide with the BC Care Aide & Community Health Worker Registry.
  • Successful completion of an HCA program from an approved and recognized Canadian post-secondary institution.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of related professional experience, including at least one (1) year in a supervisory capacity.
  • Valid BC Driver’s License – Class 5.
  • Reliable vehicle and current vehicle insurance.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Documentation of immunization and TB screening history.
  • Criminal Record Check (vulnerable sector).
  • Able to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Broad and comprehensive knowledge and expertise in the provision of home and community services.
  • Self-directed with demonstrated organizational skills, working independently, and in collaboration with others.
  • Proven ability to use tact and sound judgment in decision-making, and when dealing with sensitive and complex issues.
  • Demonstrated ability in maintaining strict confidentiality.
  • Demonstrates professional accountability, integrity, and humility in client care delivery.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in administration, staffing, and team coordination.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication in the English language, along with conflict resolution and de-escalation skills.
  • Deeply self-aware, reflective, and emotionally grounded, demonstrating a genuine, kind, and gentle approach.
  • Ability to continue to strongly advocate for and support clients, while being witness to the ongoing impacts of systemic racism and population health disparities.
  • Brings a strong ethic of client service and is knowledgeable about the cultures and traditions of diverse Indigenous communities.
  • High level of emotional intelligence, integrity, and patience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience providing direct client care in a community setting.
  • Experience in office administration.
  • Completion of Indigenous Cultural Safety and Humility training (e.g. San’yas).
  • Experience working within or alongside First Nations communities or Indigenous-led health organizations.

Responsibilities

  • Providing exemplary front-line home care services, including assisting clients with ADLs & iADLs, monitoring client environments, performing light housekeeping, and reporting changes in client condition.
  • Providing direct supervision to home care staff (HMs & RCAs), including acting as a point of contact, assisting with orientation and training, monitoring performance, ensuring adherence to policies, promoting teamwork, conducting joint visits, and providing coverage as needed.
  • Providing administrative & coordination support to the home care team, including overseeing scheduling, liaising with external agencies, triaging visit urgency, updating schedules, supporting administrative duties like payment requisitions and reporting, and documenting meeting minutes.
  • Supporting Community Health & Wellness by contributing to population-wide initiatives, preventative care, liaising with Elders/Healers/Knowledge Keepers, contributing to community wellness programming, and participating in program planning and development.
  • Ensuring Continuous Education & Professional Development by engaging in ongoing learning, staying current with best practices, and upholding professional and ethical conduct.
