About The Position

STC operates emergency receiving homes for children and youth aged 0-15 yrs. on a short-term basis. The home(s) provide immediate care, in a safe and nurturing environment, for children and youth who are no longer in the care of their primary caregivers and or are involved with the Ministry of Social Services. The Home Supervisor is responsible for developing, recommending and implementing approved strategies and business plans for the efficient and effective day-to day operation of the home(s). The Home Supervisor’s are under the direct supervision of and will report directly to the Urban Homes Manager and overseen by the Director of Well-Being Services. Home Supervisors will follow the Saskatoon Tribal Council Personnel and Financial Policies and the STC Homes Operations and Program Guidelines Manual.

Requirements

Post-secondary degree in Social Work or a related human services field.
Minimum 2 yrs. related experience in case management.
Minimum 2 yrs. supervisory or management experience.
First Aid and CPR certification.
Ability to perform all duties in accordance with related legislation. Knowledge of Saskatchewan and First Nation legislation for Child & Family Services is required.
Must demonstration knowledge and application of budget planning, case management and effective staff management skills, ability to motivate others in a collaborative team environment.
Effective problem solving, decision making, interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work in a calm and confident manner to coordinate different viewpoints in determining the best interest of the child.
Ability to work as a team member, as well as individually.
Ability to demonstrate knowledge of basic computer programs and administrative computer skills.
Demonstrate ability to work in a fast pace, high stress environment while implementing good judgement with effective communication and sound decision making.
Must possess a valid Saskatchewan driver’s license, a reliable vehicle and meet STC’s insurance requirements.
Must provide a current, original, Canadian Criminal Record Check (CPIC) with vulnerable sector search as a condition of employment.
Ability to be flexible/able to work unconventional hours and available for rotational on-call duties (provide support 24 hours a day).

A combination of related education and required work experience may be considered.
Ability to communicate with children and have an understanding of children in care is an asset.
Knowledge of the political, social and economic objectives of the Saskatoon Tribal Council and of the Dakota, Cree, and Saulteaux cultures will be considered an asset.

Responsibilities

Ensure the children / youth will be safe and have increased protection from abuse, neglect, harm, or threat of harm while providing high quality of service to children and youth in our care.
Follow and uphold the standard of operations in accordance with any contractual obligations, governing body or legislation required by program standard.
Maintain relevant training requirements as specified in this role and be open to any additional workshops or personal development that will enhance the service delivery of STC programs.
Collaborate with the Ministry of Social Services to complete the assessment/intake process, develop care plans and provide advocacy for children/youth, implementing the mental, emotional, physical and cultural well being of children and youth.
Assist with recruitment, hiring, orientation and training of Child and Youth Support Workers.
Provide leadership, direction and daily supervision of Child and Youth Support Workers including; mentoring, coaching, and completing performance evaluations.
Oversee the maintenance and operational responsibilities are completed for the day-to-day functioning’s of the Home as outlined by agreements, legislation and policy. This includes but not limited to; staff scheduling, effective operational budgeting, nutritional planning, domestic responsibilities and administrative responsibilities.
Maintain professional and ethical boundaries and follow a strict code of confidentiality at all times as outlined in the STC Code of Professional Conduct and Ethics.
Report any suspected abuse as per Duty to Report policy and processes.
Perform other related duties as defined and assigned by the reporting line authority or designate on an as required basis.
The Home Supervisor is ultimately responsible for providing a safe and healthy workplace, and so must make the health and safety of all workers and clients a priority.
Ensuring workers and clients have the information, training, supervision and experience to do their job safely.
Ensuring that workplace injury/incident reporting is completed in a timely manner.
Supporting the OH&S Committee by involving the committee in health and safety activities.
Encouraging committee participation, and allocation time and resources.
Actively measuring and working to improve the health and safety performance of their unit/area by taking every reasonable precaution in the circumstances for the protection of employees and adhering to legislated safety policies and standards.
