About The Position
A paraprofessional who is specifically trained and competent to perform assigned personal-care functions for patients in their residences under the direction, instruction, and supervision of a registered nurse (RN). The position works indoors in an agency office and patients’ homes and travels to and from patients’ homes. The role is identified as PRN.
Requirements
- Meet Medicare Conditions of Participation for Home Health Aide training program and competency.
- Have a sympathetic attitude toward caring for sick and elderly people.
- Be able to carry out directions, read, and write.
- Have the maturity and ability to deal effectively with the demands of the job.
- Be able to participate in physical activity and work for extended periods while standing and engaged in physical activity.
- Be able to perform heavy lifting and extensive bending, lifting, and standing on a regular basis.
Responsibilities
- Understand and adhere to established agency policies and procedures.
- Perform assigned personal care, bathing, and hands-on care.
- Complete appropriate visit records promptly in accordance with agency policy.
- Report changes in patients’ conditions and needs to the RN.
- Perform assigned household services essential to health care in the home.
- Ambulate and exercise patients as assigned.
- Perform simple procedures as an extension of therapy or nursing services, such as assigned range-of-motion exercises.
- Assist with medications that are ordinarily self-administered, as assigned.
- Attend scheduled and necessary in-service and continuing education programs.
- Attend patient care conferences as scheduled.
