About The Position

The primary function of a Home Health Aide (HHA) is to provide personal healthcare and related services to the client in their place of residence. This includes assisting in maintaining a safe and clean environment, working cooperatively with the patient and family, and sharing observations and problems with the supervisor. The HHA works under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse.

Requirements

• At least one year of experience in the last 24 months as a Home Health Aide or Nursing Assistant in a hospital, nursing home, or home health agency, OR completion of Certified Nursing Assistant or Certified Home Health Aide Program within the last 24 months.
• Must be able to read and write in English and follow written and verbal instructions in English effectively.
• Proof of current CPR and Hepatitis profile.
• Aide Competency Evaluation Skills.
• Must be a licensed driver with an automobile that is insured in accordance with state and/or organization requirements and is in good working order.
• Demonstrates interest in the welfare of ill and elderly.
• Works in patient’s homes in various conditions, possible exposure to blood and body fluids and infectious diseases; ability to work flexible schedule, ability to travel locally; some exposure to unpleasant weather.
• Prolonged standing and walking required. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and move patients. Requires working under some stressful conditions to meet deadlines, to identify patient needs, to make quick decisions and meet patient/family psycho social needs. Requires hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity. Ability to utilize durable medical equipment in the home.
• Organized and resourceful self-starter, strong ability to work in a team.
• Excellent observation, verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
• Acknowledge obligation and agreement to fulfill duties and responsibilities as set forth in the Code of Conduct and Compliance Policies and to be bound by these standards.
• Certify that throughout association with EH compliance with the terms of the Code of Conduct and Compliance Policies.
• Understand that violations of the Code of Conduct and Compliance Policies may lead to disciplinary action, including termination of employment.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care under the direction of the RN and according to the Aide Plan of Care, including personal hygiene, ambulation, exercise, safe transfers, and other assigned supportive tasks.
• Complete appropriate documentation in a timely manner.
• Practice accepted infection control principles.
• Provide a clean, safe, and comfortable environment that promotes respect for patient, privacy, and property.
• Provide skills necessary to assist the patient with proper nutrition and adequate fluid intake.
• Appropriately report changes in the patient’s condition.
• Promote positive, supportive, respectful communication to patient/family and other employees.
• Demonstrate commitment, professional growth, and competency by attending 12 hours of in-services per year.
• Promote the agency philosophy and administrative policies to ensure quality of care.
