About The Position

The Home Medical Equipment (HME) Technician provides home care service deliveries, equipment repair, and maintenance. A basic understanding and working knowledge of home care medical equipment is preferred. Frequent patient/client interactions such as patient education and equipment set-up require good interpersonal communication skills. The HME Technician works under the limited supervision of the Warehouse Operations Manager.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid Wisconsin Driver’s license and ability to successfully pass a driving background check required.
  • Must possess a thorough knowledge of traffic regulations and safety precautions to be followed while operating a motor vehicle.
  • Ability to perform frequent patient/client interactions, such as patient education and equipment set-up requiring good interpersonal communication skills.
  • Must be able to lift up to 100 pounds from both the ground and table height.
  • Must be able to carry 100 pounds while walking 20 feet.

Nice To Haves

  • A basic understanding and working knowledge of home care medical equipment preferred.
  • One-year experience preferred in ordering equipment, inventory control, and/or performing minor equipment repairs, home delivery with training of equipment, products, and/or supplies in customer homes, and direct customer contact in the capacity of assisting with various types of equipment or products.
  • Experience with medical supplies, medical equipment, and/or oxygen products preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Load, transport and deliver medical equipment and determine location for set-up within patients’ homes.
  • Perform initial setup and resupply for oxygen systems in patients’ homes.
  • Document and confirm accuracy of all pertinent patient and medical equipment information for entry into Brightree.
  • Provide education to patients and their caregivers on the safe and appropriate set-up and use of durable medical equipment, including beds, walkers, wheelchairs, commodes, canes, bilirubin lights, etc. for patients in the hospital, clinic, and home setting.
  • Work with other Care Direct staff, referring providers and patients to coordinate service or address patient concerns.
  • Assess need and perform safety checks, routine maintenance, and emergency repairs of home medical equipment.
  • Participate in “on call” rotation to address patient needs normal business hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Maintain vehicle and related safety equipment, vehicle maintenance record and operate in compliance with DOT driving regulations.
  • Comply with Joint Commission, FDA, CMS, and other applicable regulatory and accrediting organizations.
  • Responsible for the cleanliness and organization of the warehouse, loading dock and parking lot.
