HLS Autonomy Software Systems Engineer II

Blue Origin•Littleton, CO

About The Position

This position is part of Blue Origin’s Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Moon landers and related products. The engineer will collaborate with software development engineers and other discipline teams to define systems and software across Lunar programs. The work supports missions transporting crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface, with a focus on safe, repeatable spaceflight. The role requires technical expertise, collaboration, attention to quality, and commitment to Blue Origin’s mission. Under general supervision, the engineer independently develops state machine definitions for assigned subsystems, such as a single actuator or sensor chain. They own software requirements, verification plans, and test cases for their scope, contribute to fault management and FMEA-driven requirements, and support hardware-in-the-loop and software-in-the-loop testing. They also work with flight software, guidance, navigation and control, or controls engineers on requirements flowdown for assigned interfaces, and develop tool, test, and verification software as needed.

  • 2–5 years of professional experience.
  • Experience with C/C++ or Python scripting.

  • Write and maintain software requirements, verification plans, and test cases for owned scope.
  • Participate in fault management discussions and contribute to FMEA-driven requirements for assigned subsystems.
  • Support HIL/SIL test setup and execution, and independently author test procedures.
