The Manager, HLI Preclinical Services, will provide leadership in the overall management of the largest Core within the Centre for Heart Lung Innovation. This role involves providing leadership and direction in operational planning to maintain and improve productivity and efficiency, overseeing animal care activities, facility maintenance, renovation, and space utilization. The Manager will also provide direction to all animal research activities at HLI and offer authoritative information to investigators on experimental design, procedures, and equipment. This position requires regular liaison with principal investigators, user groups, employees, UBC and VCH departments, vendors, and other industry professionals to anticipate and determine changing space requirements. The role includes selecting, training, evaluating, and disciplining specialized technical personnel, overseeing work schedules to meet project requirements, designing project timelines, and monitoring expenditures. A key responsibility is ensuring a safe working environment by investigating and monitoring the facility to prevent accidents, promoting first aid training, and working with health and safety departments. The Manager is also responsible for budgetary control, advising leadership on budgetary matters, and preparing cost data for proposals. Additionally, the role involves planning, developing, and deciding on standard operating procedures related to animal health and care, employees, facilities, equipment, and supplies.
