About The Position

UPMC Chautauqua is hiring a dedicated Histotechnologist to join our dynamic Histology Lab team. This position is full-time, dayshift hours. No weekends or holidays. Title and Salary will be determined based upon education and experience. Process and prepare specialized tissue samples per competency guidelines for this level in a clinical laboratory. In addition, monitor level and quality of work performed by others. Evaluate new procedures, techniques and tools. Resolve problems that impact test results.

Requirements

• Successful completion of bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college/university with a combination of 30 semester hours of biology and chemistry.
• One year of clinical histology laboratory experience post training if not a graduate of accredited training program required.
• American Society for Clinical Pathology American Society Clinical Pathology Histotechnologist- HTL (ASCP) certification required within 12 months of hire.
• New York License required for NY locations.
• Clinical Laboratory Technologist OR Histotechnologist
• NYS Staff Exclusion List (NYSEL)

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates progression of skills towards working independently in an advanced staining area.
• Supports academic mission of department.
• Demonstrate complete knowledge of CoPath related to Histology workflow.
• Maintain instruments following quality control specifications and daily maintenance protocols.
• Perform ancillary or miscellaneous tasks such as filing, cleaning, stocking supplies.
• Perform QC checks at each phase of processing/ staining
• Accurately prepares slides for microtomy using the barcode label in order to maintain correct patient identification throughout the process.
• Process and prepare surgical and autopsy tissue specimens for embedding, cutting, staining and cover slipping. Embed and cut specialized tissue based on location including minute biopsy protocols.
• Ensures all tissues are embedded and cut according to department specific protocols with proper orientation and complete sections including no folds, chatter, artifacts or floaters.
