About The Position

The Histotechnologist prepares tissue and fluid specimens for analysis by treating them with chemicals and mounting on slides. This role is located at the Atlanta VA Medical Center (VAMC), a Joint Commission designated medical facility in Decatur, Georgia. The Atlanta VAMC is a level 1A tertiary care facility providing patient-centered healthcare via an array of comprehensive medical, surgical, geriatric specialty services, as well as state-of–the-art diagnostic testing. It serves the healthcare needs of over 130,000 enrolled Veterans. The Medical Center is also a teaching hospital, providing hands-on and state-of-the-art technology, education, and research to residents in collaboration with Emory University School of Medicine and Morehouse School of Medicine.

Requirements

• Minimum one year of experience, preferably in histology.
• Bachelor's degree for Histotechnologists (HTL).
• Certification from an accredited Histotechnology Program.
• Must have ASCP HTL certification.

Responsibilities

• Prepares tissue and fluid specimens for analysis by treating them with chemicals and mounting on slides.
• Collects, logs, and processes specimens, ensuring proper identification and paperwork.
• Maintains cleanliness and safety in the workstation and follows protocols for specimen handling.
• Maintains and prepares equipment for tissue processing and slide preparation.
• Sets up equipment for lab procedures and performs maintenance and quality control checks.
• Manages inventory of reagents and materials.
• Assists in morgue room maintenance and chemical disposal.
• Provides technical assistance and training to lab personnel.
