About The Position

Labcorp is seeking a Histotechnologist to join our team in Lakewood, CO. This is a PRN/Casual position, hours will be "as needed", and will cover 3rd shift. The Histotechnologist will process human tissue and body fluid specimens in preparation for microscopic examination, perform technical duties related to the production of histopathological slides of surgical specimens, section embedded tissue using a microtome and mount the section properly on a microscope slide, perform various immunohistochemical tests on formalin fixed paraffin embedded tissue sections, and process mounted sections through routine and special staining procedures. They will also orient and embed surgical tissue specimens, prepare the stains and reagents needed for special procedures, and report accurate and timely test results to deliver quality patient care. Additionally, the role involves operating and maintaining manual and automated instruments, performing and documenting equipment maintenance, recording equipment log data, and performing and documenting preventive maintenance and quality control procedures. The Histotechnologist must adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies, follow procedures for specimen handling and processing, analysis and reporting, and document problems that may affect test performance and perform corrective actions as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Histology OR a Bachelor’s degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Histology, Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology with 1 years of more of histology experience
  • 1 years or more of prior grossing experience
  • Able to pass a standardized color blindness test

Nice To Haves

  • Current or prior Labcorp experience
  • Histology and/or ASCP certifications
  • Familiarity with routine histology procedures and equipment
  • Immunohistochemistry experience
  • Comfortability embedding both large and small specimens
  • Ability to accurately read all labels and documents
  • Highly organized with a strong attention to detail
  • Experience working in a high volume laboratory environment is desirable
  • Familiarity with laboratory SOPs and safety protocols

Responsibilities

  • Process human tissue and body fluid specimens in preparation for microscopic exam
  • Perform technical duties related to the production of histopathological slides of surgical specimens

  • Perform and document equipment maintenance as needed
  • Record equipment log data in an accurate and timely manner
  • Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures
  • Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies
  • Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, analysis and reporting
  • Document problems that may affect test performance and perform corrective actions as needed
