About The Position

Responsible for high quality histotechnological services under the direction of a physician in a clinical practice. This position requires independent judgment in selecting methodologies for processing tissue specimens and solving routine problems. Histotechnologists contribute to the overall efficiency of the laboratory or pathology practice in a cost-effective manner by performing a variety of tasks, primarily consisting of preparing and Histological processing of all surgical pathology specimens in preparation for pathologist review and diagnosis.

Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent
  • 5 years for support or 0-2 years for professional work experience
  • HTL(ASCP) certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC) or equivalent.
  • Continuous requirements are to perform job functions while standing, walking and sitting.
  • Ability to bend at the waist, kneel, climb stairs, reach in all directions, fully use both hands and legs, possess good finger dexterity, perform repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders.
  • Maintain 20/40 vision corrected, see and recognize objects close at hand and at a distance, work in a latex safe environment and work indoors.
  • Frequently lift, lower, push and pull and/or carry objects weighing 50 lbs (+/-) unassisted, exert up to 50 lbs of force, lift from 36” to overhead 25 lbs.
  • Exposure to hazardous chemicals, cutting equipment and body fluids/tissues.

Responsibilities

  • Processing all specimens received in the Histology laboratory under minimal supervision.
  • Preparing and Histological processing of all surgical pathology specimens in preparation for pathologist review and diagnosis.
