About The Position

MU Healthcare is looking for a dedicated and detail-oriented Mohs histotechnologist who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment to join our Mohs and Dermatopathology lab team. If you have a passion for delivering exceptional laboratory results from preparing tissue by freezing, cutting, staining and mounting tissue specimens according to routine and specialized procedures, we want to hear from you. Ideal candidates will be proactive, highly organized, and receptive to cross-train and assist in the Dermatopathology Laboratory with grossing, embedding, microtomy, special stains and IHC. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree. Individuals who have qualified as a Histotechnologist by February 28, 1992 may substitute an associate's degree.
  • Histotechnologist (ASCP-HTL) certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP).

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, biological, clinical, or medical laboratory science/medical technology with at least: 24 credit hours of medical laboratory technology courses, or 24 credit hours of science courses including 6 hours chemistry, 6 hours biology, and 12 hours in chemistry, biology, or medical lab tech.
  • At least 1 year of histology, immunohistochemistry and/or Mohs laboratory experience

Responsibilities

  • Conduct immunohistochemical techniques for diagnosis of pathologic conditions in tissues, cryo-sections, cytology, and hematology preparations.
  • Prepare nerve, muscle, and kidney tissue for specialized techniques.
  • Perform and refine advanced procedures and protocols for the evaluation of enzymes in tissues, specifically muscles.
  • Prepare kidney and skin specimens for direct immunofluorescence (DIF).
  • Utilize proper techniques and procedures for cryo-sectioning of tissue to further evaluate routine, special stains, and immunohistochemistry (IHC).
  • Develop and implement new or modified protocols and procedures to stay abreast of current laboratory trends.
  • Perform and monitor QA/QC to maintain the highest quality in all protocols and procedures. Document daily data entry and staining procedures to ensure consistency and accuracy.
  • May assist higher-level technical staff with instruction and teaching laboratory protocols and procedures.
  • Maintain daily documentation, troubleshoot malfunctions, and perform preventative maintenance on all laboratory equipment. Take corrective action as needed.
  • Properly dispose of unwanted material per laboratory, university, state, and federal government protocols. Utilize proper storage and documentation of all chemicals and reagents in the laboratory.
  • May complete unit/department-specific duties as outlined in department documents.
