About The Position

NeoGenomics is looking for a Histotechnologist for our lab in Aliso Viejo, CA who wants to continue to learn in order to allow our company to grow. This is a Temporary-status opportunity working a part-time schedule. Our labs operate 24/7; multiple shift arrangements may be available, with preference for Sunday and Monday coverage. Temp-status workers carry out their duties via a third-party agency and are not official employees of NeoGenomics. Requirements

  • Level I: 1+ years as an ASCP Histotechnician/Histotechnologist preferred
  • Level II: 4+ years as an ASCP Histotechnician/Histotechnologist preferred
  • Bachelor of Science in chemical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution - OR - Associate of Science in a laboratory science, or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution - OR - Equivalent education of 60 semester hours with 24 semester hours in biological and chemical science courses.
  • Nationally: HT (ASCP) or HTL (ASCP)
  • FL: current state technician or technologist license
  • Basic understanding of laboratory techniques
  • Possesses appropriate computer skills to accomplish tasks
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently
  • Must be able to work in a fast paced, multi-tasking environment while maintaining production and quality standards
  • Must be able to work in a biohazard environment and comply with safety policies and standards outlined in the company’s Safety Data Sheet Database
  • Good visual acuity including color perception required for certain departments
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds

Responsibilities

  • Receives tissue specimens and ensures proper accessioning and labeling of all tissue samples
  • Processes paperwork associated with accessioning and reporting
  • Performs routine and non-routine activities involved in the preparation of slides for microscopic evaluation by pathologist(s), according to established Standard Operating Procedures
  • Performs microtomy according to established Standard Operating Procedures
  • Embeds processed tissue in paraffin wax
  • Performs coverslipping of stained slides either manually or automated
  • Performs all special stain procedures according to established Standard Operating Procedures
  • Performs filing of blocks and slides
  • Maintains laboratory in a clean, functional state, as well as cleaning, performing or scheduling equipment and instrument maintenance/calibration/certification, as required. Documents remedial actions such as repairs or repeated tests
