About The Position

Performs routine and non-routine activities involved in preparing slides for microscopic evaluation by pathologists, according to policies and procedures. This per diem position works completely autonomously. The role includes accessioning and labeling tissue samples, processing tissue, preparing slides and reagents, performing staining procedures, maintaining equipment, and documenting quality control activities.

Requirements

Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, or Bachelor of Science degree, or equivalent training and experience.
HT or HTL ASCP certification.
Three or more years of experience in histology as a Histotechnologist.
Demonstrated knowledge and skill in histology.
Ability to work autonomously.
Critical-thinking skills, including problem-solving and troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

Ensure proper accessioning and labeling of all tissue samples.
Process paperwork associated with accessioning and reporting.
May perform gross tissue examination (high-complexity testing) if qualified under 1988 CLIA CFR 493.1489 and the corporate Minimum Qualifications for Personnel Performing Gross Tissue Examinations SOP.
Ensure proper tissue processing.
Embed processed tissue in paraffin.
Perform microtomy of embedded tissue.
Prepare slides for routine staining.
Cover-slip stained slides manually or using automated equipment.
Prepare solutions and reagents for special stain procedures.
May obtain and validate control tissue used in special stains.
May perform special stain procedures.
Prepare solutions and reagents for IHC and ISH procedures.
Obtain and validate control material used in IHC, FISH, and ISH procedures.
Perform IHC and ISH testing.
File finished blocks and slides.
Perform routine equipment maintenance and cleaning.
Follow the laboratory's quality control policies and document all quality control activities.
